Two needs our regular giving doesn’t reach yet.

Most of what you give keeps every child we walk alongside in school, year after year. This page is different: specific needs, each with a cost and a date, that we raise for separately. When a need is met, it comes off this page, and we tell you how it went.

Appeal 01 · EducationOpen

Uma is ready for university.

Uma grew up at Bal Mandir in Kathmandu, a long way from her home district of Rukum West. At eighteen she had to leave and make her own way, and Pooja has walked alongside her since.

For nearly three years she has worked, first at a data-collection company and now editing photographs. A second-hand laptop from a supporter was her way into technology, and technology is where she wants to build her life.

She has been accepted onto the Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA) at Nagarjuna College of Information and Technology in Kathmandu. Her salary covers the basics of living, not a degree. So we are raising for it directly, and Bhagya Nepal pays the college and suppliers itself.

In Uma’s words

My passion has always been to study IT. I love the power of AI and what it can do, and I want to study it so that one day I can be part of the AI revolution. I want to be independent, so that I can support myself and my brothers’ education and lives, and be a good role model for them.

57 families in Rasuwa, before winter.

HOPE worldwide Nepal

HOPE worldwide Nepal

On the morning of 26 August, an ice-and-rock avalanche high in the Lende Khola, on Nepal’s border with Tibet, sent a surge of water and debris down the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers. It tore through Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading and reached as far downstream as Chitwan.

More than 1,450 people have been confirmed dead and thousands are still missing. In Syabrubesi, more than 400 houses and the whole market were swept away, along with the bridges across the river. For weeks the only way in was by helicopter; a cable crossing now carries a few dozen people a day.

57 families who lost their homes are living in temporary shelter at Shree Komin Shaymey Wangphel School, the Komin holding centre in Syabrubesi. Winter is arriving in the mountains, and they have nothing to keep them warm. This Dashain, with HOPE worldwide Nepal, we are bringing them warm clothes, blankets, clean water and medical supplies.

This is a special fund, for this relief only. Once everything is delivered, we will publish what reached the families, with photographs of the work.

When an appeal closes

We stop asking, and we show you what it did.

We say so here.

The week a need is met, it is marked met on this page and the asking stops.

We account for it.

What the money paid for, line by line, with dates. Photographs where everyone in them has agreed.

It moves on.

Relief work joins Beyond Bhagya Nepal. A person’s story moves to Stories only if they want it to.

And the everyday work goes on

Every child’s story is still being written.

Most children we walk alongside will never have an appeal. Their school, their mentor and the years after depend on steady, ordinary giving.
