Neharika

From a home that wasn’t safe to a place where she could finally begin to heal.

The written fate

A home that wasn’t safe.

Neharika grew up with her mother and her younger brother. Her father was violent, towards her and towards her mother.

What happened at home stayed with her. By the time she came to Bhagya Nepal, she was carrying far more than any child should.

More than any child should have to carry.

The turn

Slowly, she opened up.

At school she found something she hadn’t had before: a community, and adults who stayed. With support from Ruta6, Bhagya Nepal’s partner in Spain, she studied alongside the other children Bhagya Nepal walks with.

Slowly, Neharika began to talk about what had happened. That was the start of healing. It may never fully finish, but she no longer goes through it alone.

“Happy with my mother,” she wrote.

Still writing

On to high school.

Neharika has finished at her boarding school and moved on to high school, and she is doing well.

She still goes back regularly to visit the other Bhagya Nepal children at her old school.

Still being written. In a safe place, at last.

Help a child write their own story

Every story here is still being written.

You’re not rescuing a child. You’re giving her what she needs to do it herself: school, guidance and time. And you are helping us stay for the years after.
