Purnima

Raised by her Hajur Ama in one small room. Now very much her own person.

The written fate

Just the two of them.

Purnima’s parents left, and cut themselves out of her life for good. From then on it was her grandmother, her Hajur Ama, who raised her alone.

Hajur Ama was tough, and she worked without stopping to keep Purnima in school. But money was always short. The two of them lived in one small rented room. They cooked there, slept there, and Purnima studied there.

One small room, and a grandmother who would not give up.

The turn

A chance meeting.

Pooja met Hajur Ama by chance, while Hajur Ama was working in someone’s household. They got talking. Hajur Ama told her about her granddaughter, and said that if she were to die one day, this little girl would have no one in the world.

No one else in the world.

That was the turning point. With support from Ruta6, Bhagya Nepal’s partner in Spain, Purnima came into Bhagya Nepal’s care and started school alongside the other children.

Still writing

A life about her.

Purnima did very well at school and has moved on to high school, where she is doing well again. She is smart, she is talkative, and she has a life about her that is contagious.

Hajur Ama is healthier now, and at peace, knowing that her granddaughter, her only family, is looked after.

Still being written. Never alone again.

Help a child write their own story

Every story here is still being written.

You’re not rescuing a child. You’re giving her what she needs to do it herself: school, guidance and time. And you are helping us stay for the years after.
