Sujan and Sushmita, chapter 1 / 3Two children, no one to lean on.
Sujan and his elder sister, Sushmita, grew up without a father. Their mother was struggling with alcohol. Sujan was the first of the two to come to Bhagya Nepal.
Sushmita’s road was harder. Still very young, she became pregnant, and the young man she was with left. She had no money and no one to turn to.
Very young, with a baby, and alone.
Sujan and Sushmita, chapter 2 / 3She made the call.
Someone offered to take her in. Instead of care, that person harmed her.
Both Sujan and Sushmita are supported through Ruta6, Bhagya Nepal’s partner in Spain.
When it became too much, Sushmita called Pooja. Pooja went to her, brought Sushmita and her baby away from that home, and took them to a safe house where both of them were looked after.
Asking for help took courage. She found it.
Sujan and Sushmita, chapter 3 / 3A ripple.
Today Sushmita works at a café. She has learnt new skills, she is sharp, and she is becoming independent. She is still recovering, and that takes as long as it takes.
She looks back clearly now, at what happened and at what is in front of her. She and Sujan are both somewhere safe, healthy and busy, with room to find out what they can do.
And something else has changed. Their mother has now been sober for almost two years.
When one fate is rewritten, it rarely rewrites only one.
